Between self-hosting and Google

The same open-source apps you'd run yourself. We're the ones on call.

Leave whenever you want

Export everything in standard formats, any time. Keep backups on your own storage if you like. Or move the same apps to your own server.

One login for everyone

Sign in with Google or another account you already have, or with a login we host just for you. Same account in every app.

Open about everything

Open-source apps, open-source tooling, published finances. 5% of revenue goes to the open-source projects we host.

Ready in ten minutes

Pick a name, pick your apps, pay. We do the rest.

  1. 1

All we need is an email address.

  2. 2

    Set it up

Choose your instance name, which apps you want, and how people log in.

  3. 3

    Pay

Monthly, or yearly with two months free.

  4. 4

    Move in

Each app gets its own address, like photos.name.liberacloud.eu. We help you bring photos over from Google and iCloud.

Household

€19.99/month

  • As many people as you need
  • 1 TB of storage
  • All four apps
  • Backups and full export

VAT included. Waitlist members keep this price.

One price for the whole household

Storage and computing power are what cost us money. Adding your partner, kids or parents barely changes that, so they're included.

Later, you'll pick how much storage and computing power you need, and the price will follow it.

Google and Apple will always be cheaper per terabyte. They sell storage close to cost and make their money elsewhere. We can't do that, and we don't want to.

What we promise

Open books

We publish who owns the company, how it's funded, what it earns and what it spends. No venture capital. It's not built to be sold.

Paying upstream

5% of revenue goes to the open-source projects we host. Without them, none of this exists.

Tested backups

Backups at a second EU provider. Every quarter we restore from them and publish how it went. There's a public status page too.

No ads, no AI

Your files, photos and calendars are never used for advertising and never sent to any AI service.

EU only

Servers and backups are in the EU. Every company that touches your data is listed publicly.

A plan for the worst

If we ever shut down, you get advance notice, time to export, and your prepaid months back.

About encryption

Your data is encrypted on disk, and backups are encrypted before they leave the server. Your password vault is encrypted on your own device, so we can't read it.

The rest isn't end-to-end encrypted. To show previews, search your photos and recognise faces, the apps have to read your data while they run. Every service like this works that way. So we won't call it "zero-knowledge", and we'll only say "audited" once an outside auditor has actually checked it.

Later you'll be able to lock your storage with your own key. The catch: after a server restart, your instance stays offline until you enter it.

Roadmap

What comes next.

Next

Friends and family

  • Pilot with 20 to 50 households
  • Import from Google Photos and iCloud
  • First restore test, published

Then

Open the doors

  • Paid Household plan
  • Waitlist let in month by month
  • Full export and public status page
  • Our tooling published as open source

Later

Make it better

  • Lock storage with your own key
  • Outside security audit
  • Price that scales with storage and compute
  • Take your instance home on your own server

Who's behind this

We're two people in Prague who have self-hosted these apps for years, for ourselves and our families. It works, but it's a second job: updates, backups, the outage while you're on holiday, your parents' phone that stopped backing up. We'd rather do it properly, once, for many households, and be open about how we do it.

Questions

Why not just use Google Photos or iCloud?

If price per terabyte is all that matters, use them. They are cheaper. We're for people who want their data in open-source apps, in the EU, with an easy way out.

Why not Proton?

Proton is great if you want end-to-end encryption. But its servers are closed source, exporting everything is hard, you can't keep backups on your own storage, and you can't use your own login for the family. On the scale above, it sits much closer to Google.

Why not host it myself?

You can, and you can move to your own server at any time with the same apps. We're here for people who'd rather not spend their evenings on updates and backups.

Who can see my data?

Nobody, for advertising or AI. The servers process your photos to show previews and run search, like any service of this kind. Password vaults are encrypted on your device. We only access an instance to fix a problem, and every company handling your data is listed publicly.

What happens if you shut down?

You get advance notice, time to export, and refunds for prepaid months. Your export works with the same open-source apps, so you can run them yourself or with another host.

What about uptime?

Servers and backups are in the EU, at two separate providers. Every instance comes with an uptime guarantee and a public status page. Updates run on our own families' instances first.

When can I start?

We start with a small pilot and then let people in from the waitlist month by month, so support stays good. Join and we'll email you when there's a place.

Want in early?

Join the waitlist. You'll keep the launch price.
